10 Things ‘The Office’ Taught Us to Never Actually Do at the Office
While The Office provided us with countless laughs over its nine-season run, it was also known for being pointing out some of the ways in which people act inappropriately in the workplace. Here are 10 things that the show taught us not to do around our co-workers (or, you know, ever).
Don't invite co-workers to your party.
You won’t be able to invite everyone, so someone is going to get their feelings hurt. Also, they may find your high school yearbook and endlessly make fun of your picture (I’m looking at you, Pam).

Don't try too hard on Halloween.
Everyone loves dressing up for Halloween, but keep in mind that you are in a place of business. Save the extravagant costume for when you go out to parties later.
Don't expect everyone to like you.
Some people don’t get along with other people. It’s just the way of the world. Don’t try too hard to make everyone like you. Focus on the ones who already do.

Don't spread gossip.
When you share someone’s secret, you're just asking for bad things to happen. It is mean, it will hurt them, and it will more than likely come back to bite you. Just don’t do it.

Don't use a co-worker as your wingman.
When you go out for a drink with people from work, it can be tempting to try to help each other score phone numbers. Just ask Oscar why that’s a bad idea.

Don't expect too much on your birthday.
Many of your co-workers probably won’t even know that it’s your birthday unless you’ve told them ahead of time. Don’t expect your office to shut down so that everyone can throw you a party.

Don’t do impressions outside of your own ethnicity.
While Michael’s impression of a famous Chris Rock routine might be hilarious inside his own head, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t going to rub people the wrong way. Be aware of how your humor will affect other people.

Office awards are intended to be a morale booster, but they don’t really amount to much. Don’t get cocky just because you won the “Whitest Sneakers in the Office” award.

Not all couples display their relationships the same way, so when you are out with a couple from the office, things might get a little weird. It’s best to just avoid these situations altogether.
