Donkey Kong

This classic game first appeared at the arcades in 1981, and introduced the world to the iconic video game characters Mario and that amazing ape, Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong was the product of a Nintendo artist named Shigeru Miyamoto, who crafted the entire game himself (even the music). The only help he got was with the name. He and a manager decided they'd call it "Donkey Kong" because "kong" would imply a gorilla was involved, and "donkey" was used because their Japanese-to-English dictionary said it meant "stubborn, wily, and goofy."

Well, the old Nintendo classic is still as fun as ever. And now you can have a barrel of fun with Donkey Kong right from your toolbar or ALOT home page. Just click the button to launch the game window and start monkeying around with the much-loved game.

You all know the story: Donkey Kong has stolen Mario's girlfriend and taken her to the top of a steel structure. It's up to Mario to rescue his damsel in distress from the clutches of the giant ape. To do so you have to get Mario to the top of the structure by climbing over girders and up ladders, riding conveyor belts and jumping on and off fast-moving elevators. Of course, it's not quite that easy; you'll have to leap over tumbling barrels and dodge lethal fireballs as you go.

With each level the game gets progressively harder and Donkey Kong begins to hurl barrels more rapidly and the fireballs get quicker. How high can you climb? Can you help Mario save his lady love?

Special Instructions: Use your left/right arrow keys to move from left to right, etc, and the space bar to jump. To climb ladders use your Up arrow. FYI - You may need to click on the game with the mouse before the arrow keys start working.
